Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and Vicenza, Italy, jointly held a video conference on June 22 to exchange their experience of the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

Chen Yan, mayor of Guiyang, introduced Guiyang's efforts in epidemic prevention and control, and expressed gratitude for Vicenza's support during the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Chen, Guiyang and Vicenza have achieved progress in both epidemic prevention and control and economic growth through supporting each other; an approach which is essential to tackling the virus.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Italy, Guiyang and Vicenza started the process of establishing friendly city relations to further the cooperation between the two cities.

Guiyang is willing to carry out cooperation with Vicenza in middle and high-end trade and manufacturing, big data, education, sports, tourism and culture, and contribute to the friendly relationship between China and Italy.

Francesco Rucco, mayor of Vicenza, said that Vicenza considers Guiyang as its key strategic partner, and wishes to maintain online communication with Guiyang to promote cooperation on both epidemic control and industrial development.

Rucco also looks forward to paying a visit to Guiyang after the epidemic eases.

Vicenza is located in Italy's Veneto region, covering an area of about 80 square kilometers. As the industrial center of North Italy, it is honored as a city of gold and jewelry by the international jewelry industry.
