South Korean tourist influx surges in Guizhou

Since the implementation of China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy, South Korean tourists entering Guizhou province via Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport have soared by 268.42 percent year-on-year.

The growing trend of South Koreans traveling to Guizhou has also drawn numerous South Korean social media influencers to the province. With 7.27 million followers, influencer Kim Yuri tasted grilled tofu on a Guiyang street. Another popular creator, Hwang Sebin, tried on traditional Miao ethnic clothing, while travel blogger Kim Hwayoung shared 12 videos about her trip to Guiyang.

A key driver behind this surge is the combination of improved transportation and favorable visa policies. In September 2025, a direct flight route between Seoul and Guiyang was launched, shortening travel time to just 3.5 hours. Even with transfers via Qingdao or Incheon, total travel time is kept within half a day – making Guizhou a competitive alternative to Southeast Asian destinations in terms of both cost and convenience. Coupled with China's 240-hour visa-free transit policy, entry procedures have been significantly streamlined, offering South Korean tourists a smoother and more efficient travel experience.

Data from an online travel agency shows that since December 2025, South Korean visitor numbers to Guizhou have increased by 7 percent year-on-year, with total spending rising by 14 percent. The top five destinations within the province include Guiyang city, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, Zunyi city, and Anshun city.

Cultural resonance and effective promotion have further fueled the trend. Scenes from Guiyang's Dongshan Tower and Taiping Road evoke a sense of familiarity among South Korean visitors, while local specialties such as sour soup and grilled meat have become "fan favorites".

After experiencing Guizhou firsthand, several high-profile South Korean influencers shared their journeys on social media, inspiring even more South Koreans to visit Guizhou.
