Preparations are underway for the Guiyang premiere of the Legend of Maritime Silk Road piano concerto, a landmark work born from the cultural fusion between China and ASEAN.

The highly anticipated performance is set for this August, bringing a musical feast that transcends borders and bridges ancient traditions and contemporary expression.

Commissioned by the Silk Road International Arts Exchange Center, the concerto is conceived by renowned Malaysian Chinese pianist and composer Claudia Yang, with composition by British composer John Lenehan.

The work, completed in July 2022, draws inspiration from classic folk songs of China and the 10 ASEAN member countries, reweaving them into a splendid tapestry of Asian culture through the language of symphony.

The piece serves as a musical bridge, expressing the deep and enduring friendship between China and ASEAN – connected by mountains and rivers, bound by shared cultures, and united by lasting ties of goodwill.

Since its world premiere at the Silk Road International Arts Exchange Center in Langfang, the concerto has traveled to the 47th ASEAN Summit, the ASEAN-China Week, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra's performance season, and had a Russian debut, drawing powerful resonance from audiences wherever it has been performed.

This August, Guiyang looks forward to welcoming you to experience this musical journey that belongs to the world.
